In some sites, housing is even less expensive, meaning you could even cover the airfare and some additional travel for the same cost.

Many majors can allow a student to spend a full semester abroad at any time during a four-year degree. There are some majors that cannot allow credits to be earned abroad after sophomore year. Sophomore year is often the best time to be sure you can spend a semester abroad. Remember, that in addition to your major courses, you need to complete your general education requirements and all students must earn 120 credits to graduate. You may find that you can study abroad and earn credits outside your major and make great progress towards your degree.

SU In global campuses and Global Seminars are short-term study abroad programs offered in the month of January and in the summer. The SU In global campuses are like miniature semester-long study abroad but they only last 3-4 weeks. SU professors teach courses during the week at a foreign host campus. In the afternoons, you have time to explore. There are some weekend excursions and some free weekends. You might take one course and your friend might take a different course. Global Seminars are usually only 8-12 days. An SU professor teaches a single course. You do not spend time on any campuses. Housing is usually in tourist hotels and your professor takes you on lots of field trips throughout the week.

The SU Foundation hosts eight different study abroad scholarships thanks to the generosity of friends of the university who have donated to make study abroad more affordable for all students. During the fall and spring semesters, you can bring all your regular scholarships, grants, and financial aid with you. If you receive a Pell Grant, there is a special scholarship funded by the US Department of State called the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship that is just to support study abroad for students who receive Pell Grants.

SU has two special partnerships with well-regarded national study abroad providers, the American Institute for Foreign Studies (AIFS) and the School for Field Studies (SFS). AIFS and SFS provide dozens of study abroad sites in places where SU does not have its own partnerships. You can study abroad with AIFS or SFS during fall and spring semesters and during winter term and summer term.

SU is an active member of the National Student Exchange (NSE). Through the network, students can spend a semester studying in states that are very culturally and historically different from Maryland. For the same cost as a semester in Salisbury, you could spend a semester in New Mexico, the Virgin Islands, New Orleans, Alaska, or one of more than 150 universities located in every state.

Students in many majors can do a full-semester internship all over the world. Students in the Seidel School of Education have a special opportunity to do half of the required student teaching internship abroad. Students in the College of Health and Human Services, especially in Social Work, Exercise Science, and Public Health have excellent opportunities to complete an internship abroad. All majors in the Fulton School of Liberal Arts can complete a full-semester internship in cities like Dublin, London, Florence, Barcelona, and more. Fulton School students have the added opportunity of completing an internship along with credit-bearing seminars in one of the great capital cities of the world, Washington DC, through partnership with the Washington Center.
