The criteria, eligibility requirements and procedures for Internships are determined by the academic departments and supported by the Career Services Center. Universal requirements for the campus do not exist.  PLEASE NOTE: If you wish to receive academic credit for any internship you must contact & receive prior approval from your major academic department.  

Internships are the single most important thing you can do to gain career-related experience. Internships have a DIRECT affect on securing high caliber entry level employment.  It allows you to get a taste of the world of work and helps you assess what you really like about a field and perhaps what you do not.  Here are some resources that will help you learn more about internships.

Alliances Abroad -The goal of the International Internship program is to give you the true experience of what it is like to work in another country, in the field you have chosen. We offer placements in a variety of fields, and work with you to find the right match to your interests and abilities, prior experience and language level.

Cross-Cultural Solutions-Cross-Cultural Solutions is a non-profit organization that sends volunteers abroad to provide humanitarian assistance with our Volunteer Work Programs in China, Costa Rica, Ghana, India, Peru and Russia.  Many of these situations could be used as internships.
Global Volunteer Network- Offers volunteer opportunities in community projects throughout the world. Currently in Alaska, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Honduras, India, Kenya, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, and Vietnam.
GRANTS FOR NORTH AMERICAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE ASSISTANTS IN SPAIN
*Global Experiences.com-Great site founded by SU Alumni, Steven Reilly.  Places students in internships.
The Institute for Central American Development Studies ICADS offers a 14-week internship and Research Program each semester in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
(The) Institute for International Cooperation and Development (IICD) Trains volunteers to work in Africa, India, and Latin America, and runs educational travel study programs to Brazil preparing the participants, who then work 3 months to a year with development organizations in the third world.

International Partnership for Service-Learning-offers a fully integrated study abroad and volunteering experience. By uniting academic study with substantive volunteer service and living in a family home stay or with students on-campus, you are fully immersed in several levels of the culture at once.
International Service for Human Rights-SHR internships will involve being a member of a multicultural team responsible for monitoring a variety of United Nations human rights meetings, such as the treaty bodies and working groups and in particular, the annual sessions of the Commission on Human Rights and its Sub-Commission.

Summer Internship Programs in Germany-This summer program provides training opportunities for enrolled students in Germany. Paid placements are available in business/finance, hotel management/tourism, computer science, and engineering fields. Application deadline is January 15, for the following summer.
Taj Global Understanding (TGU) is a non-profit organization,  offers unique volunteer programs to India, programs which provide a unique insight into Indian culture.
US Commercial Service London Intern Program. The US Commercial Service offers an active internship program throughout the year and welcomes applications from suitable candidates seeking experience promoting trade between the United States and the United Kingdom.

American Business Media-The Internship Program offers college students paid internships at business media companies nationwide in the areas of advertising sales,  business/finance, corporate communications, custom media, editorial, entertainment, event planning, healthcare, IT, human resources, marketing, production/graphic design, public relations, travel and many more. Interns are placed in many major cities including New York, Washington D.C., etc.

CDS-CDS International (CDS), founded in 1968, is a non-profit organization committed to the advancement of international practical training opportunities for young professionals, students, educators, as well as labor, business and government representatives.  Today, CDS serves almost 1,400 individuals annually from over 50 other countries in Europe, Germany, Argentina, Spain, Asia and South America in a variety of work/study, internship, and study tour programs.  Internships, fellowships as well.

Live, Learn and Intern-For more than 30 years The Fund for American Studies has sponsored educational programs of the highest quality for students with outstanding leadership potential.  Both summer and semester programs in DC.
Long Island Works Coalition-Variety of internships in the Long Island area.  Must register.
(The) Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Fellows Internship Program-The MDOT Fellows Internship Program is designed to introduce college students to the unique challenges and rewards of working within Maryland's integrated transportation system.
The National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) seeks outstanding graduate and upper division undergraduate students to serve as interns on aging and long-term care policy projects in Washington, DC. Students studying economics, gerontology, political science, public policy, health policy, social work, actuarial science or related subjects are urged to apply for this 12-week summer semester internship.
