Sharkey has worked as a writer, teacher and editor. Her publications include six chapbooks and four full length volumes: Calendars of Fire; A Darker, Sweeter String; To A Vanished World; and Farmwife. Sharkey is the recipient of the Abraham Sutzkever Centennial Award in Translation, the
Maine Arts Commissions Individual Artist Fellowship in Literary Arts and the Rainmaker Award in Poetry, judged by Carolyn Forch. Her poems have appeared in Crazyhorse, Drunken Boat, FIELD, Kenyon Review, Nimrod, The Pinch, Prairie Schooner, Seattle Review and many other literary magazines. Since 2003, she has co-edited the Beloit Poetry Journal. This reading is part of SUs National Poetry Month celebration.
