Faculty/Staff Software Access

Faculty and staff can access and install software on both their SU-owned desktop or laptop computer(s) and on their personal computers at home.

SU-Owned Computers

Faculty and staff using an SU-owned and tagged computer in their office can access and install software in a variety of ways.

  • Pre-installed software: All SU-owned computers are set up with Microsoft Office and other software packages pre-installed and ready for use.
  • Software Center: Faculty and staff using an SU-owned Windows computer on campus can access the Software Center to install a variety of SU-licensed software packages such as Adobe Acrobat or IBM SPSS. The Software Center can be accessed by clicking on the Start menu of any Windows computer and selecting All Programs or All Apps.
  • Downloaded or purchased software: Faculty and staff can download and install purchased and licensed software onto their SU-owned computers. If the install requires an admin username and password to install, faculty can use right-click elevation to install using their SU username and password. If you are unable to install a downloaded application, you can also call the IT Help Desk for assistance.
  • Remote Applications: All faculty, staff and students have access to SU Remote Applications. This can be used both on and off-campus to access certain SU-licensed software packages such as Minitab and SPSS through their web browser.

Personal Computers

Faculty and staff can also install or access SU-licensed software packages for use on their personal computers, or purchase and install Microsoft Office and other software packages at a discounted rate.

  • Remote Applications: All faculty, staff and students have access to SU Remote Applications. This can be used both on and off-campus to access certain SU-licensed software packages such as Minitab and SPSS through their web browser.
  • Software licensed "for home use": There are a few packages that are available to be installed on personal computers for "home use". Instructions for installing these software packages can be found on the SU Software Licensed for Personal Devices/Home Use instructions page.
  • Discounted software purchased through Kivuto Solutions: Through the University of Maryland System's MSELA program, faculty, staff and students can purchase discounted software, including Microsoft Office, through Kivuto Solutions
