Wendy Denny

Interim Director of Human Resources

The Director is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and strategic vision in all areas of human resource management. Responsibilities include hands-on oversight and management of the University’s human resource activities including:

  • Development and implementation of human resources policies, programs and services
  • Recruitment, selection, and retention
  • Employee and labor relations as well as union negotiations
  • Employment practices and procedures
  • Staff communications
  • Compensation and benefits management
  • Staff training and compliance with federal and state labor/employment laws & regulations
  • Legal and BOR USM policies/procedures compliance

Also serves as internal consultant to University's management team, supervisors and staff on personnel issues.

Wendy Denny

HR Manager

Wendy provides oversight for departmental daily operations in addition to decision making and the development of:

  • Compensation & Classification (to include job analysis, salary surveys and performance management)
  • Immigration
  • Benefits
  • Wellness
  • Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS)

She provides consultative direction to constituents on HR best practices, assists in the development & administration of human resources policies & procedures and acts in the stead of the AVP in her absence.

Barbara Ratliff

HR Administrator

Barbara provides administrator support for Academic Affairs relating to:

  • Search and selection
  • Employee relations
  • Employment
  • Immigration

Additionally for general HR administrator support:

  • Search and selection
  • Employee and labor relations
  • Employment, unemployment, and exit process
  • Employee Recognition
  • HRIS administration, upgrades and testing coordinator

She assists with program/process evaluation, development and implementation. Heather also provides consultation to faculty, staff and management regarding employment, policy, procedure performance management and discipline.

Melissa Sabol

HR Administrator

Melissa provides administrator support relating to:

  • Search and selection
  • Employee and labor relations
  • Employment, unemployment, and exit process
  • Employee Recognition

She assists with program/process evaluation, development and implementation. Melissa also provides consultation to faculty, staff and management regarding employment, policy, procedure performance management and discipline.

Vanessa Paul

Benefits & Wellness Specialist

Vanessa is responsible for benefit and wellness program administration and outreach.

  • Provides consultative services to faculty, staff and retirees on the variety of benefits programs
  • Processes benefits related transactions to include enrollment, corespondence, employee presentations, health fairs, tuition remission, etc.
  • Liaison with the State of Maryland Employee Benefits Division (EBD), State Retirement and other Retirement and benefit plan vensors
  • Coordinating the development, implemntation and administration of the Wellness @ SU program.

Michelle Phillips

HR Compensation/Classification & HRIS Specialist

Michelle is responsible for providing professional level support with respect to the development, implementation, and administration of the Classification and Compensation programs and HRIS function.

  • Compensation/Classification includes policies and programs, position classification reviews, as well as market surveys and internal data salary reviews.
  • Oversee and/or lead the contractual faculty, staff, and student contract process.
  • HRIS includes maintainance of HRIS and employee records; enter and review HRIS entries to ensure data integrity; coordinate and prepare data files for transmission; conduct and/or coordinate required testing; create queries and prepare reports from databases

As appropriate will also provide support for faculty and staff matters related to various HR functional areas and HR-facets of the employment life-cycle.

Nadalyne Campbell

HR Specialist

Nadalyne provides assistance in supporting and maintaining HR programs and functions to include:

  • Compensation & Classification for nonexempt positions
  • Benefit (to include Tuition Remission) and Wellness administration
  • Contingent II and FTNTT employment contract process
  • HRIS and other maintenance of related records

Amy Sterling

HR Specialist

Amy provides support for the contingent employee contractual process and maintenance of the Human Resources Information System (HRIS):

  • Review and processing of faculty, staff and student contracts and employment paperwork
  • Process and paperwork coordination with the Payroll Office
  • Data integrity reviews, testing, and report generation

Courtney Oliver

HR Associate I

Courtney provides Human Resources administrative departmental support to include:

  • Processing a variety of HR related documents (employment contracts, I-9s, etc.)
  • HR Office ProCard and other financial related document processing and tracking
  • Assisting customers, internal and external, related to human resources practices and procedures

Elizabeth Bourdin

Administrative Assistant I

Elizabeth greets and provides assistance to employees, students, applicants and visitors and performs a variety of administrative support duties for the Human Resources Office. She is responsible for processing Criminal History Checks and assisting with the Search and Selection process.
