Library Services for Faculty

At the SU Libraries, one of our most important responsibilities is assisting faculty with their instruction and research. We offer a number of services with this goal in mind, from information literacy instruction sessions for your classes to course reserves and more. If you have questions about any services not listed here, please feel free to reach out to your departmental liaison for assistance.

Instruction & Workshops

The Libraries offer several different types of instruction that will allow you to enhance your course. Instruction is usually handled by the library liaison to your department, and we can tailor the instruction to your course’s individual needs.

Course Reserves

You can use our online course reserves system to request items be put on reserve in the library. The items will be held behind the Library Service Desk for easy access for your students. Course reserve items also typically have a shorter loan period so that everyone in your class has reliable access to them.

Copyright Information for Faculty

Navigating the complexities of copyright law can be challenging. Since faculty are ultimately responsible for making sure all their course materials comply with copyright law, the Libraries are happy to provide guidance to make sure faculty feel confident that they are in compliance.

Collection Development

Librarians and teaching faculty work together to identify and order titles, as faculty recommendations and requests play an essential role in the collection development process. Teaching faculty know when they want to take a class in a new direction, when they are going to focus on a new seminal title, or start teaching the works of a new author, etc. It is for this reason that faculty input, recommendations, and requests are so valuable in the collection development process.

Adjunct Faculty Space

Since many adjunct faculty do not have personal offices or convenient spaces to meet with students, the Libraries have set aside an office that can be reserved by adjunct faculty for this purpose. It is a standard office with a desk and PC, as well as two guest chairs for students.

We request that only adjunct faculty who do not have offices on campus reserve this space.
