SU Hosts 12th Celebration of Great Composers Apr. 15

Jeffrey ChappellSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Music, Theatre and Dance Department hosts its 12th annual “Celebration of Great Composers” piano recital at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall.

Founded by music faculty Luba Paskova in 2006, the series originated as a way to mark the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth and has featured additional composers since. This year, the event celebrates “American Composers: Classical Meets Jazz.”

The program features guest pianist and composer Jeffrey Chappell, who has soloed with major symphony orchestras in Philadelphia, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Houston and Indianapolis, among others. The classical and jazz pianist has performed throughout the U.S. and in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Additional performers include beginner to advanced piano students from elementary to high school. Instructors are Timea Bodi, Susan Boone, Carole Lohmann, Sharon Lonsdale, Ryan Ogburn and Luba Paskova.

In addition to the concert Chappell gives a master class with SU piano students 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Fulton Hall Room 112.

He also conducts a public jazz improvisation workshop at 7 p.m. April 13 at the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, 110 W. Church St. Cost is TBD. To register, or for more information, call 410-543-2787.
