Students, faculty and staff came out on a warm April afternoon for SU’s first campuswide Wellness Fair, hosted by Wellness @ SU and the Student Wellness Program. Showcasing the theme “Put Your Best Foot Forward,” Dr. Diane Allen, SU’s provost and senior vice president of academic affairs, kicked off the event with a health walk. Others enjoyed yoga and cooking demonstrations, learned about acupuncture, took a cha-cha dance lesson and talked with some 50 vendors who participated.
In addition to a University Police safety demonstration, the Maryland Highway Safety Office shared a moving presentation with distracted driving victims Liz and Betty Marks, reminding those in attendance that their actions also can impact the health of others.
Faculty and staff were encouraged to wear tennis shoes to work in support of wellness. Those shoes came in handy for some the next day, as Exercise Is Medicine and the Student Wellness Program hosted the inaugural Move to Improve 5K Run/Walk on campus. A portion of the proceeds benefited the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
