Apply for Graduation

  1. Enter the University's Web site at Follow the link at the top right corner of the main page for GullNet.
  2. On the left side of the page you will see a button that reads "Log On." Clicking here will allow you to enter your user ID and password to gain entry to your GullNet account.
  3. Enter your user ID and password.
  4. If you have not set up your GullNet menu, first click on the layout link, select three columns and proceed by clicking the personalized content link. Check menu and deselect all other options. Then click save.
  5. On the left-hand side you will see a menu bar that lists "My Favorites," "SU Custom," "Self-Service" and more. Click on "Self-Service."
  6. A group of links will appear. In the center column, third from the top, there is a link for degree progress/graduation. Select this link.
  7. Then on the right side there is a link to "apply for graduation." Select this link.
  8. This will bring up your academic program. Click the school for your program; for example, mine is the Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies.
  9. This will bring you to a drop-down menu in which you select the term that you'd like to graduate in. Only terms for which the Registrar's Office is accepting applications will be displayed. Click continue.
  10. You will then be asked two questions: the first asks if you are expecting to earn - this does not mean two majors or students enrolled in a co-op program. If you have two majors and 150 or more credit hours, those two majors become two separate degrees, but you must have the 150 or more credits. It is possible, and more common, to have one degree with two majors, in which case your response should be "No."
  11. Select the appropriate option. I do not, so I will select "No."
  12. The second question asks if you are participating in a dual-degree program. Some majors, such as social work, are in a co-op program with other University System of Maryland schools. If you are in one of these programs, select "Yes." If you are not, select "No." Again, I am not, so I will select "No." Click "Continue."
  13. Next a screen with your name will come up; this is exactly as your name will come up on the commencement programming as well as on your diploma. If your name is correct, simply click "Continue." If it is not, check the box here. Correctly type your name as it should appear on commencement programming and on your diploma. Include any missing middle names, accent marks, suffixes, etc. This MUST be your legal name. No nicknames are permitted. Please, do not put pronunciation information in the box. My name is listed correctly, so I will make sure the box is not marked. From here, click the box labeled continue.
  14. The next screen is your diploma address information. Please look to see that your address is correct, as this is where your diploma will be sent after graduation. Make any changes as needed and click "Continue." This will bring you to a page asking you to verify all of the information you have submitted. Look over everything to make sure it is correct, as this is your last chance to make changes. If anything is incorrect, select the button that brings you back to that screen. For example, if you selected the wrong graduation term click this button.
  15. Once everything is correct, click "Submit Application."
  16. And you're done. Congratulations and we look forward to seeing you walk across the stage.
