Welcome to the SU Green Futures Program (GFP) - where students prepare for meaningful, impactful careers serving people and places that matter to them. The GFP connects academic learning with career pathways in the fast-growing green economy, fostering mentoring relationships between students and SU faculty, staff, alumni, and regional employers across the government, nonprofit, and private sectors. Whether your passion is sustainability, environmental justice, wildlife conservation, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, green technology, or entrepreneurship, the GFP has the people and resources to help you build a financially and personally rewarding career that makes a real, positive difference in the lives of others.

Goals of the Green Futures Program:
Our goal is to build comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable pipelines for students into the green economy, offering them the tools, networks, and knowledge needed to succeed in a rapidly growing and diverse sector of our regional and global economy. We’re doing this by…
- Raising Awareness: Showcasing career opportunities in the green economy across government, nonprofits, and businesses for all SU majors and minors.
- Building Green Skills: Connecting students to SU’s environmental programs and to regional partnerships that build students’ skills, environmental and climate literacy, and industry-relevant certifications.
- Mentorship: Pairing students with SU faculty, alumni, and employers who are established green professionals.
- Fostering Equity: Developing inclusive pipelines to green careers, ensuring that underrepresented groups—including people of color, women, and rural communities—have equal access to the benefits of the green economy.
- Collaborating with Professionals and Employers: Regularly engaging with employers in the green economy to keep SU’s academic and career support services aligned with current job market needs.
Join us in shaping a more sustainable tomorrow. Through workshops, online resources, individual career consultations and mentorship, and hands-on experiences, we’re investing in the next generation of environmental leaders.
