Academic Requirements For Transfer Applicants

About General Education

All students seeking a bachelor’s degree from SU are required to complete a series of courses that span several disciplines; this program is called General Education. General Education promotes intellectual development and provides students with a common ground of understanding and competence for meeting the challenges of today’s world as educated individuals.

General Education Requirements

While every SU student must complete the following requirements, how the requirements are fulfilled varies from major to major. The following provides you an overview of the General Education curriculum.

SU Signature Outcomes: Must complete at least 3 credits in each of the following areas:

  1. Civic and Community Engagement
  2. Diversity and Inclusion
  3. Environmental Sustainability

Approved courses in the above areas may also include General Education requirements below. Approved courses in the above areas may also include major coursework. If a student does not complete a course in all three areas above within their General Education or major coursework, an additional course(s) must be completed in order to fulfill these requirements.

Check the Catalog

On the left menu of the University catalog, there is a link to General Education Courses. There you can view a list of every course that has been approved to fulfill a General Education requirement. Note that frequently, some General Education requirements are met by your major or minor requirements. Program requirements for your intended major and minor are also found in the University catalog.
