Bio

Born in Oklahoma but calling coastal Georgia home, Cara Lee Wade’s military father took the family to places all over the country, igniting her interest in diverse subjects. A confirmed nerd, during her academic career she majored in many things, from Musical Theatre to Archaeology, ultimately receiving undergraduate degrees in Education and English. Cara’s first photo class was a fluke, an elective during her senior year of undergrad. From her first experience in the darkroom, she knew her world was changed.

“I think there is an element of magic in photography — light, chemistry, precious metals — a certain alchemy. You can wield a camera like a magic wand almost. Murmur the right words and you can conjure up proof of a dream.” -Keith Carter

She received a Master of Fine Art degree in Photography from Savannah Collage of Art and Design in the spring of 2004 and began teaching the following fall. As an artist, Cara continues to exhibit widely, most recently at Fort Wayne Museum of Art in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jasper Arts Center in Jasper, Indiana, Rosewood Center for the Arts in Kettering, Ohio, and Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio (the last two as part of the International FotoFocus Biennial).
