Jamie McKittrick

Bio

Jamie McKittrick is an interdisciplinary artist who’s worn many hats in theatre as an actor, director, choreographer, and movement practitioner. As an artist/devisor/teacher, she draws upon deep research, intuition, and her work in the 6 Viewpoints, Developmental Movement Technique, psychophysical acting, and Roy Hart Voice. She’s an Associate Artist with Metro Theater Company where her work has been honored as the featured productions in both 2020 and 2021 for the TYA USA national conference. She’s been on faculty most recently at Muhlenberg College and at the Sargent Conservatory at Webster University. Jamie loves teaching performance and delighted to share that love with Salisbury University’s Theatre Program.

Research Interests

Jamie's research is mostly centered on post-modern, post-dramatic, and experimental performance practices that put the performers and the audience members into presence with the immediate moment. She grounds this research in practices and techniques of The Six Viewpoints, Developmental Movement Technique, psychophysical acting based in Grotowski, and Roy Hart Voice. She also continues to track contemplative practices as a source for performance making and performance training.
Teaching Philosophy

I believe in an experiential approach to teaching actors. I’m not merely interested in privileging tried techniques and practices of performance, but I’m equally interested in the students’ experiences of meeting these tried techniques and practices. In the experiential classroom, not only is there room for everyone, but it works best when a diverse group of people bring their entire selves into the room. I believe it is only by honoring what makes each of us unique and integrating that into the training of future theatre makers that theatre and performance have any hope of remaining viable, important, and innovative.
