SU Hosts 'Understanding the Opioid Epidemic' Panel

OpioidSALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University hosts the panel discussion “Understanding the Opioid Epidemic” 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, in the Nanticoke Room of the Guerrieri Student Union.

Panelists and topics include:

•    Dr. Timothy Stock, chair of SU’s Philosophy Department, on social and ethical aspects of the opioid addiction crisis;

•    Christina Bowie-Simpson, Wicomico County Health Department opioid coordinator, on local resources;

•    Karen Dolch, a Salisbury resident who lost her son to a heroin overdose;

•    Crystal Toomer, Wicomico County Community Outreach Addiction Team (COAT) member, on her experience with opioid addiction and recovery; and

•    Birch Barron, deputy director of the Maryland Opioid Operational Command Center, on statewide initiatives.

The discussion is hosted by the SU Philosophy Society in cooperation with the Wicomico County Health Department, co-sponsored by the SU Honors College, Political Science Department, and Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts. Admission is free and the public is invited.
