Quanzhou Marionette Puppet Troupe Performs at SU

SALISBURY, MD---Considered the most famous string puppet troupe in China, the Quanzhou Marionette Puppet Masters perform 7 p.m. Thursday, October 19, in the Great Hall of Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall.

The troupe makes the figures execute difficult actions and perform multiple acrobatics to the accompaniment of music and singing. Its members performing include deputy director Lin Jianyu, intangible cultural heritage inheritor Shen Suge and representative inheritor of Quanzhou Marionette Theatre Wu. 

The Chinese government designated the Quanzhou Marionette Troupe in the first group of National Intangible Cultural Heritage projects for safeguarding. The troupe has performed at the headquarters of the United Nations, the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games and Carnegie Hall in New York. It has appeared in more than 30 countries.
