SU's Agarwal Earns Award from National Communication Association

By SU Public Relations

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Vinita Agarwal, professor of communication at Salisbury University, recently earned a Top 2 Outstanding Article Award from the National Communication Association’s (NCA) Spiritual Communication Division (SCD) for her article “Whole person healthcare as social and environmental justice: new research directions toward a paradigmatic integration of an ecological whole system medicine framework.”

Agarwal’s article utilizes research into whole person healthcare (WPHC) and whole system medicine (WSM) approaches, to propose an argument for broadening the definition of human health to one that is guided by the philosophical orientation of traditional whole system medicine (WSM) approaches, undergirded by the values of social and environmental justice, and supported by the practices of a WPHC framework.

“As the Chair of the Spiritual Communication Division at NCA, I encouraged Dr. Vinita Agarwal to apply for one of the awards in our division, due to my appreciation of her valuable scholarship,” said Dr. Sahar Khamis, chair of the SCD. “I'm glad she did, and I'm even more glad she won this well-deserved award in recognition of her outstanding article which crosscuts the three areas of communication, health, and spirituality. Many congratulations!”
