Carcoarco Trio Performs the Music of Brazil March 29

SALISBURY, MD---Brazilian music has been widely acclaimed in the musical world scenery, mainly through bossa nova and dances such as samba and derived rhythms.

The Carcoarco Trio presents some of these renowned styles during its performance as part of the World Ambassador Series at Salisbury University 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.

The trio embraces cultural diversity as the basis for the musical creation and structuring of its compositions. The trio makes use of instruments, musical genres and rhythms deep-rooted in the Brazilian music. The rare Brazilian rebecas (fiddles) and the several percussion instruments, such as berimbau, pandeiro, zabumba, affaia, congas, and ceramic vases, exemplify the aesthetic principle that combines research and musical outcome.

Carcoarco’s first album, TuToca O Que?, has received positive reviews from critics throughout Brazil. The repertory presents unheard pieces of Jose Eduardo Gramani, one of the most important Brazilian composers to dedicate his work to the rescue of the Brazilian musical heritage, especially that of the rebeca. Besides Gramani, the CD features landmark composers of the history of the popular music in Brazil, such as Pixinguinha, Ernesto Nazareth, and others. The trio has appeared in the main concert halls, radio and television throughout Brazil.

All artists appearing in the series are sponsored by their respective embassies and World Artist Experiences, Inc. (WAE), an organization committed to furthering world arts as a universal language for international understanding.
