International Student Receives Rotary Scholarship
SALISBURY, MD--Oluwabunmi (Bunmi) Akinkuowo, a citizen of Lagos, Nigeria, is the recipient of the first scholarship dedicated to international students at Salisbury State University from Sunrise Rotary International in Salisbury. The scholarship award is $500.
Bunmi, a biology major with a chemistry minor, began her studies at SSU in fall 1998 and hopes to enter a "helping" profession, such as medicine.
At SSU, Bunmi is involved in BASIC Campus Ministries, International Group, the Gospel Choir and works at the Information Desk in SSU’s Guerrieri University Center.
"Many thanks to Sunrise Rotary International and Charlie Endicott from SSU’s Career Services Office for making this first scholarship available to international students," said Bunmi.
International students are not eligible for federal or state financial aid and must prove the availability of funds as a part of their admissions process.
She plans to apply the scholarship toward next semester’s books.
