Kirwan Discusses 'Indigenous Landscapes of Delmarva' Sept. 20

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Jeff Kirwan knows the Delmarva Peninsula in a way few others do.

An emeritus professor and extension specialist for the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation, he has spent his career studying indigenous ecology and landscapes in the region.

The Nause-Waiwash Band of Indians member, with roots on the Eastern Shore, shares an overview of his findings during the presentation “Indigenous Landscapes of Delmarva” 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, in Room 153 of Salisbury University’s Conway Hall.

His talk includes a discussion of how indigenous peoples have managed the landscapes of Delmarva throughout the years.
