Leimann to Receive Alumni Appreciation Award
SALISBURY, MD--Salisbury State University Alumna Karen Leimann will be recognized at SSU's commencement on Sunday, December 17, with the prestigious Alumni Appreciation Award. Leimann, an elementary teacher and administrator in Wicomico County for over 20 years, received both her bachelor's (1973) and master’s in education (1991) from Salisbury State. She is currently the principal at Prince Street Elementary School in Salisbury.
As a member of Salisbury State's Alumni Association board of directors since 1991, Leimann has held the offices of secretary, vice president and president (1997-99) and played a key role on the committee for furnishing the Alumni House, which opened in June 1996. She continues to serve on the Alumni board of visitors, a president's advisory board, which was formed during her term as president.
"During her tenure as president she worked hard to generate alumni awareness and appreciation on campus," said Roy Perdue, director of alumni relations, "with homecoming attendance and alumni giving both rising dramatically." A member of both Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Delta Kappa, Leimann is also involved with the Wicomico Historical Society. She is also a past member of the Junior Auxiliary Board at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council.
Past recipients of the SSU Alumni Appreciation Award include Clinton Bradway, Edgar A. Baker, Billye P. Sarbanes and Paul Rendine.
The SSU commencement, a ticketed event, will be held in the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center. For more information call the Salisbury State Public Relations Office at 410-543-6030.
