SU Celebrates Eastern Shore Trombone Day Monday, March 23

TrombonesSALISBURY, MD---In 1957, playwright and composer Meredith Wilson gave trombones their due in his Tony Award-winning musical The Music Man.

More than half a century later, organizers of Eastern Shore Trombone Day, Monday, March 23, are working to keep the instrument’s reputation going strong as part of Salisbury University’s celebration of Music in Our Schools Week.

Area trombonists are invited to a free clinic and recital with John Marcellus, retired principal trombone with the National Symphony Orchestra, and Dr. Isrea Butler, trombonist with the Cab Calloway Orchestra and professor of music at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The event begins at 7 p.m. in Fulton Hall Room 112.

Following the clinic, musicians in attendance are invited to read through several large trombone choir arrangements as a group.

Sponsored by the SU Department of Music, the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6385 or visit the SU website at www.salisbury.edu.
