SU Commemorates Disability History and Awareness Month with Film Screenings October 29-31

Sound and FurySALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University commemorates Disability History and Awareness Month in October with screenings of two films by director Josh Aronson.

The series begins with Sound and Fury Tuesday, October 29. The 2000 Academy Award-nominated film follows two families as they struggle to decide whether a cochlear implant, which can assist hearing-impaired individuals, is best for their children. While the implant may allow them to hear, it also potentially threatens their identifying with the hearing-impaired culture.

Aronson’s sequel, Sound and Fury: Six Years Later, is screened on Thursday, October 31. The 2006 documentary provides an update on the Artinian family from the first film and how some of the attitudes originally presented changed over the next six years.

Both films are shown 3-5 p.m. in the Pocomoke Room of the Guerrieri University Center.

Sponsored by the Student Disability Support Services Office, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-543-6030 or visit the SU website at www.salisbury.edu.
