SU Students Collect Canned Food for Hope and Life Outreach Ministries

SALISBURY, MD---Students from Paula Morris’ Advertising Promotion Management class in Salisbury University’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business recently collected almost 300 cans of food for Hope and Life Outreach Ministries (HALO), a non-profit that provides programs and services for the local homeless community.

Each semester, students in the SU course partner with area organizations to create or market fund- and awareness-raisers. The partnerships provide the students with real-world experience in advertising and promoting events.

Marketing students Danielle Merritts, Nichole Mihalos and Kevin Thompson joined with SU’s Sales Program to host a canned food construction competition on campus. Participants had one hour to build the most unique structure out of canned food they collected. Directors from HALO judged the competing teams and accepted the canned goods used in the competition for the organization.

Members of SU’s Zeta Tau Alpha sorority placed first, receiving $200 for their structure made with 95 cans. Second place was awarded to members of the Men’s Club Lacrosse Program, who received $100 for their structure made with 79 cans. Faculty from the Perdue School competed, as well.
