SU's Guy Named Rotarian of the Year
SALISBURY, MD---When Dr. Sarah Guy volunteers with the Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club, she doesn’t do it for recognition — but her fellow club members notice.
Guy, associate director of the Business, Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON) in Salisbury University’s Franklin P. Perdue School of Business, recently was named the organization’s 2015-16 Rotarian of the Year.
“The award honors the club member who has best exemplified Rotary’s motto of “service above self,” said Immediate Past President Amy Luppens, who presented Guy with the award during the club’s annual banquet. “This award is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a Rotarian.”
Guy served as the club’s membership chair, organizing recruitment events, and assisting in the creation of marketing materials and welcome packets. During her year in the position, the organization grew by seven members.
She also coordinated a new Reindeer Readers literacy program, incentivizing children in local non-profit after-school programs to read during the winter holidays. In addition, she took the lead in obtaining and managing a district grant to launch a virtual financial literacy program for Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore.
“Our Rotary district stated that the final report she submitted was the best they had ever seen,” said Luppens.
Dr. Memo Diriker, BEACON director, joined the club in congratulating Guy on the award.
“As delighted as I was to find out about this great honor bestowed on Dr. Guy, I cannot say I was surprised,” he said. “Sarah brings an exceptional dedication, caring and perfection to everything she does. From her work here at BEACON to the senior board positions she holds at Junior Achievement and the Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club, she is the embodiment of authentic leadership.”
