Poetry Reading Greg Glazner-November 9

SALISBURY, MD--Poet Greg Glazner reads from his work on Monday, November 9, at 8 p.m. in the Montgomery Room of the Commons at Salisbury State University. Sponsored by SSU s Department of English, his presentation is free and open to the public.

Singularity, Glazner s latest collection of narrative meditative poems, is a powerful summons to plumb the richness of a conscious life. He deftly weaves into Singularity the many textures of contemporary life: car rides, radios and obscenities spray-painted under bridges; morning coffee and the yeast smell of bread; power lines and ATM machines; sunlight and swaying shadows; shut-down factories and homeless drifters; the soft flannel shirt of a loved one. Present in the commonplace details of the outer world are their parallels in the inner world: suffering and comfort. Glazner asks: Why should singularity require/ this shape; light that couldn t be/ without shadow at the marrow of it. He maintains that whether or not we want it to, singularity requires both light and shadow; conscious life is inclusive by nature and does not look away from the world.
