Salisbury University’s Center for Healthy Communities brought community members, educators, medical professionals, social workers and allies together to honor Transgender Day of Remembrance and continue their mission of fostering inclusivity, understanding and support for the transgender community. SU’s second annual Interprofessional Symposium on Transgender Care and Experience interactive day of learning focused on the topic “Achieving Trans Health Equity in a Polarized Society: The Role of Interprofessional Health Care.”

SBY Business Journal: SU Hosts 40th Eastern Shore High School Mathematics Competition

Students from 20 schools in Delaware and Maryland demonstrated their mathematical talents in Salisbury University’s 40th annual Eastern Shore High School Mathematics Competition. Students engaged in problem-solving activities during the team round and responded to multiple-choice questions in the individual round. First-place team honors went to Delmar High School. The second-place team winner was Stephen Decatur High School. The third-place team award went to James M. Bennett High School. Read More

WMDT: SU Partners with Blood Bank of Delmarva for Campus Blood Drive

Blood Bank of Delmarva Donation POD
Salisbury University students and staff at the Blood Bank of Delmarva said they were giving back to their community one donation at a time during a recent blood drive on campus, at which the Blood Bank unveiled its new Donation POD. More than 79,000 blood donations each year serve about 20,000 patients. The non-profit provides blood and blood products to 19 hospitals on the Delmarva Peninsula, and they share their efforts to collect on the Eastern Shore. Research shows that every 2 seconds, in the U.S., someone needs blood or platelets. Read More

SBY Business Journal: SUPD Earns CALEA Reaccreditation

The Salisbury University Police Department recently earned its fourth accreditation from the International Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). The department was first accredited in 2013 and is re-evaluated every four years. During the voluntary accreditation process, CALEA representatives evaluated the department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services. They also spoke with members of the department, and SU and the greater communities. Read More

SBY Business Journal: Fall Ratcliffe Foundation Shore Hatchery Entrepreneurship Competition Winners Announced

Fall Ratcliffe Foundation Shore Hatchery winners
Judges in the 23rd round of Salisbury University’s Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation Shore Hatchery entrepreneurship competition were wowed by medical device innovation, awarding body-powered upper extremity prosthetics company Marins Med with this semester’s top funding amount: $40,000. The funding, for device manufacturing, will allow the team to continue its mission of creating devices that restore functionality and seamlessly integrate into the daily lives of amputees. In all, judges awarded some $100,000 to five businesses. Read More

WMDT: SU Presidential Citizen Scholars Discuss Their Experience with the Program

Ashley Marcum and Zainab Jabeen are seniors at Salisbury University and a part of the Presidential Citizens Scholars Program. The focuses on civic engagement for, allowing students to work with community leaders to better the area. Currently, Marcum and Jabeen are working with Somerset County and Wicomico County officials to conduct a community needs survey. Read More

SBY Business Journal: Business Clients Sought for SU M.B.A. Course

M.B.A. presentation

Salisbury University’s Perdue School of Business is seeking clients for its M.B.A. program’s project consulting course in which seniors gain hands-on experience working with businesses and organizations. Projects may be managed in person or from a distance, using video conferencing, collaborative workspaces, and online presentations for analysis and recommendations. Prospective clients are invited to submit a synopsis of a problem students might solve for their organization.

WBOC: SUPD Earns $750,000 MHEC Campus Safety Grant

The Salisbury University Police Department (SUPD) soon will have more tools than ever to help keep the campus safe thanks to a $750,000 Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) Campus Safety Grant. The grant will allow for the purchase of additional security cameras on campus, as well as a portable camera, new software to will bring many of the systems currently used by police under one operation, a digital message board for use at large campus events, and a utility terrain vehicle.
