Family Weekend October 23-25

SALISBURY, MD--Salisbury State University's Family Weekend 1999 will bring some 1,500 people here Friday, October 22, and Saturday, October 23, for activities that enable students to share with their families the academic, cultural and social attractions of University life. Many of the weekend'sevents are free.

"We consider Family Weekend to be an essential part of the freshman experience," said Lawanda Dockins-Gordy, SSU's director of New Student Experience. "The University experience is often a family endeavor. Family Weekend is an opportunity for family and friends to share in what's happening on campus."

Family Weekend begins Friday night with the 10th annual SSU Variety Show (or V10), featuring the performing talents of the Salisbury State community. V10 is in Holloway Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $3; free for SSU students, faculty and staff. There is a repeat performance the next night

A continental breakfast in the Guerrieri University Center Saturday morning will be followed by the president's address and a slide show presentation at 9 a.m. featuring new students from the New Student Experience programs.

Saturday afternoon parents will have the opportunity to learn about SSU's Alcohol Task Force and its initiatives, and meet the faculty at the University's four schools: Perdue School of Business, Fulton School of Liberal Arts, Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies, and Henson School of Science and Technology. Sports teams competing at home Saturday are cross country, mens and womens soccer, field hockey and swimming. A pair of art exhibits are on display in the Fulton and Atrium galleries. A barbeque hosted by the Student Government Association begins at 5 p.m. outside the Guerrieri University Center.
