Pi Gamma Mu Members Present Paper at Conference

SALISBURY, MD--Salisbury State University students Eric A. Cheezum and Derek L. Simmons and Dr. Clara L. Small of the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal arts recently attended the annual Pi Gama Mu Southern Regional Conference at Emory and Henry (VA) College.

Cheezum, a senior history major from Preston, MD, presented a paper titled, ãDays That Try Menâs Souls: Woodrow Wilson, American Neutrality, and the Lusitania Disaster.ä Simmons, a junior history major from Cordova, MD, presented a paper titled, ãLoyalism on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland During the American Revolution.ä Both Cheezum and Simmons are members of the Maryland Gamma chapter of Pi Gamma Mu.

At Salisbury State, Pi Gamma Mu is housed in the History Department, even though it is a social science honor society. Membership in Pi Gamma Mu is open to juniors, seniors, graduate students, (and faculty), in the upper 35 percent of the class with at least 21 semester hours in the social sciences and a grade point average of "B" or better. Pi Gamma Muâs constitution defines the social sciences to include the disciplines of history, political science, sociology, anthropology, economics, international relations, criminal justice, social work, social psychology, history of education and cultural or human geography.

The faculty advisors for Pi Gamma Mu are Dr. Richard Bowler, Sylvia Bradley, Dr. Bart Talbert and Small. Small also serves as the North Eastern regional chancellor of Pi Gamma Mu and is also a member of the board of trustees.
