Savor Goes Broadway" Friday, March 26

SALISBURY, MD--The Salisbury Symphony Orchestra at Salisbury State University will perform a fund-raiser, "Savor Goes Broadway," on Friday, March 26, at 8 p.m. in the Commons. Dr. Thomas G. Elliot, music director and conductor, has selected music from several Broadway shows for the "pops" concert. Allison White, former Miss Delaware, and SSU students and alumni will be featured as soloists in tunes from some of the more memorable Broadway shows of the 20th century, including "Oklahoma," "Gypsy," "Guys and Dolls" and "The King and I."

The evening is patterned after the pops format made popular by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops, with whom Elliot worked during the 1970s. Unlike traditional concerts, pops concerts focus more on entertainment and informal interaction with the audience, with dancing available during the second half of the program.

The event revisits the "Savor the Symphony" fund-raisers of a few years ago and revived last year with a "Musical Desserts" sub-theme. Gourmet desserts with a musical motif, including chocolate pianos, tuxedo-dipped strawberries and cream puff swans, will be available at intermission for all concert goers.

Specialty coffees and champagne will also be available, with a cash bar for wine, beer and spirits.

Jane Ellen Mengason is chairman of the fund-raiser, which is being presented by the SSO Advisory Board, SSU Foundation and SSU Dining Services.

Tickets are $30 per person and seating is limited. Call 410-543-6176 for tickets or information.
