Holocaust Topic of May 3 Lecture by Leo Bretholz
SALISBURY, MD---Leo Bretholz, author of "Leap into Darkness: Seven Years on the Run in Wartime Europe," a personal account of his experiences during the Holocaust, will lecture on the Holocaust on Monday, May 3, at 7 p.m. in the Wicomico Room in the Guerrieri University Center at Salisbury State University.
An Austrian Jew who fled Nazi persecution, spending seven years "on the run" in Western Europe during World War II, Bretholz endured many harrowing experiences including a dramatic escape from a train destined for Auschwitz. After the war he emigrated to the United States and settled in Baltimore where he lives today.
He wrote "Leap into Darkness" with Michael Olesker, a columnist with "The (Baltimore) Sun." The book will be available for purchase after his talk.
Bretholz's lecture is sponsored by the SSU Department of History, the Student Government Association Appropriations Boardthe Social Science Club, the History Club and "The Flyer."
