Fulton School Awards Grants Totaling $9,100

SALISBURY, MD---The Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts at Salisbury State University recently awarded grants totaling $9,100 to 10 faculty members.

Drs. Jeanne Whitney, Jim McCallops, Gregory Ference and K. Peter Lade received grants totaling $4,700.

Whitney, assistant professor of history, received $1,000 toward her participation in the Attingham Study Week. A nine-day program sponsored by the Attingham Trust examines the architecture, decorative arts and social history of the English country house. This year's program takes place in Englands Dorset and Somerset counties.

McCallops, assistant professor of history, received $500 toward his research trip to New York to gather information for an article, American Civil Liberties Threatened: World War I and Its Effect.

Ference, associate professor of history, received $1,200 toward his research for a book project on Czechoslovak history at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Lade, professor of anthropology, received $2,000 toward research trips to Berlin, Germany and Beijing-Nanjing, China, investigating environmental impacts on agrarian communities in the Tibetan Chinese region of Quinlan. The project is cosponsored by the Chinese National Academy of Sciences and the Rollex Foundation.

Communication arts faculty members Drs. Andy Hepburn and Paul Pfeiffer received $1,300.

Hepburn, professor of communication arts, received $500 toward expenses incurred as coordinator for the Art Culture Nature Conference at the University of Washington in Seattle. He will also apply funds toward his continued research on working models which integrate the study of the arts and environmental studies.

Pfeiffer, director of the SSU's Biron Theatre Program and associate professor of communication arts, received $800 toward travel expenses while participating in the rehearsal of his play, Apology for the Life of an Actor, which will be performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-upon-Avon this summer.

Psychology Department members Drs. Al Witkofsky, Natalie Hopson and Suzanne Ozman received $2,600.

Witkofsky, assistant professor of psychology, received $400 toward expenses while attending the upcoming American Psychological Association annual meeting in Boston.

Osman, visiting assistant professor of psychology, received $1,200 toward travel expenses while presenting papers at the International Council of Psychologists in Salem, MA, and the American Psychological Associations annual conference in Boston.

Hopson, associate professor of psychology, received $1,000 toward expenses while attending the American Psychological Association annual meeting in Boston. At the conference, Hopson will present a poster previously accepted by the Division of Psychology of Women.

Dr. Jim Hatley, assistant professor of philosophy, received $500 toward his participation in the Art Culture Nature Conference in Seattle, WA. At the conference Hatley will present the paper, Predatory Space: Wilderness and Its Carcasses.
