George Whitehead Appointed to Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism

SALISBURY, MD--Dr. George Whitehead, professor of psychology at Salisbury State University, was recently appointed to be a member of the Governors Commission on Services and Volunteerism by Gov. Parris N. Glendening. The mission of the commission is to create, promote and support service and volunteer efforts that engage Marylanders to strengthen communities.

Whitehead serves as project director for two grants from the Corporation of National Services that fund service projects on the Shore. One is an AmeriCorps grant that funds the Partnership for Adolescence on the Lower Shore. The second is a Learn and Service grant that funds the Institute for Service Learning at SSU. He is also the president of the Wicomico County Board of Education.
