Juilliard Series Features Damocles Trio Sunday, September 19

SALISBURY, MD--The fall Juilliard Series at Salisbury State University begins on Sunday, September 19, at 2 p.m. in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center with a musical presentation by the Damocles Trio. Performing selections from Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel and Beethoven, the performance is free and open to the public. A reception in the Guerrieri Center Fireside Lounge follows the performance.

The trio, founded in 1996 by Adam Kent, Airi Yoshioka and Sibylle Johner, has performed throughout the New York area, including appearances at Alice Tully Hall, historic St. Peters Church and the American Irish Society. The group recently completed a critically acclaimed eight-city tour of Switzerland.

Committed to innovative programming, Kent, pianist, recently performed works by immigrant composers to the U.S. at the Museum of Modern Arts in New York, an all-American program for the Performing Arts in Litchfield, CT, the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Bruno Walter Auditorium. The recipient of many music awards and fellowships, Kent made his New York recital debut at Weill Hall in 1989 and has performed throughout the United States, Spain and South America.

Violinist Yoshioka, winner of the Juilliard School's concerto competition, has performed throughout the United States, Japan and Canada. A native of Japan, she received her early musical training as an honorary distinction student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and has a B.A. in English from Yale University. At Yale she was the co-president of the Yale Symphony and co-founder of the Wenceslaus Ensemble. She is the recipient of the Branford College Arts Award, a Community Service Fellowship and a Morse Fellowship.

Johner, a faculty member at the MidAmerica Chamber Music Institute at the Ohio Wesleyan University and the Third Street Music School Settlement in New York City, has performed concerts and recitals in North America and Europe. The winner of both the Drake and the Zurich Conservatory Soloist Competition, she is the recipient of the Dienemann, the Ernst Gohner and the Eubie Blake Scholarship awards. Johner studied music in Freiburg i.Br. in Germany, the Zurich Conservatory, Rutgers University, Drake University and the Juilliard School.
