'Evening of Percussion' Concert at SU
SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Percussion Ensemble performs its annual fall concert, “An Evening of Percussion: Life and Death” 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 15, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.
Directed by Eric Shuster, the program highlights George Crumb’s Songs, Drones and Refrains of Death, hailed by The Guardian of London as one of the composer’s “most haunting and haunted works.” Incorporating the poetry of early 20th-century Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, the selection features Ensemble Memento Mori with SU baritone Jeffrey Todd.
Other works include Ivan Trevino’s “Catching Shadows” for marimba duo, featuring SU alumna Becca Doughty (’16), and the debut of a new collaboration for drum machine and sampled music with live percussion by students Khaleel Santiago and Gabriel Corinthian. The latter infuses hip-hop and modern technology with traditional acoustic instruments.
Sponsored by the Music, Theatre and Dance Department, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-548-5588 or visit the SU website.
