SALISBURY, MD---Four Salisbury University nursing students have received Voiture Locale #122 Nurses Training Scholarships from a local veterans group that supports skilled nursing students.

The recipients are Allison Hynson, a senior from Catonsville, MD; Ashley Miller, a junior from Berlin, MD; Micah Muessing, a junior from Severna Park, MD; and Sarah Prock, a sophomore from Gwynn Oak, MD. All are nursing majors at SU.

Each student receives a $600 award that is renewable for a second year. They recently were recognized during a pinning ceremony on the steps of Holloway Hall. Members of Voiture Locale #122 also presented the SU Foundation, Inc. with a check for the scholarships.

“We are thankful for the support given to our nursing students from our community,” said Dr. Jeffrey Willey, SU Nursing Department chair.

Muessing added: “I am so thankful for the scholarship received from the 40 & 8 Voiture Locale. The extra help with my tuition has allowed me to pursue even more opportunities at Salisbury University, such as traveling abroad to South Africa this past winter with other nursing students.”

Voiture Locale Member John Iwanski said the group was “more than happy and pleased to support SU and students,” adding that veterans provide “ongoing support for the community.”

Scholarship recipients must be admitted into SU’s nursing program or working to obtain a B.S. in nursing; demonstrate financial need; have strong academic standing; and participate in community service and activities.
