Moore Continues SU's Enlightened Perspectives Lecture Series
SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Monica Moody Moore discusses “Code Switching: The Art of Cracking the Code with Authenticity” as this semester’s Enlightened Perspectives Lecture Series speaker at Salisbury University.
Her presentation is 7 p.m. Thursday, October 25, in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri Student Union.
“Code-switching” occurs when a speaker alternates between languages within a singular statement. The phenomenon, however, has taken on a broader context in recent years, to include accents and dialects, and has attracted media including National Public Radio and The Economist.
Moore, an SU alumna and Alumni Foundation board of directors member, and current dean of admissions at Babson College’s F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business, uses personal and shared experiences to explore the impetus behind code-switching and how to “crack the code” to better determine a speaker’s authentic voice. She also presents a “homework” assignment to audience members to modify their own code-switching behaviors.
Sponsored by the Multicultural Student Services Office, admission is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-548-4503 or visit the SU website.
