Three Medical Laboratory Science Seniors Awarded Johns Hopkins Scholarship
SALISBURY, MD---Dream jobs after graduation just became a reality for three Salisbury University medical laboratory science students.
Seniors Dorothy MacLean-Blevins, Brittany Lyon and Jessica Thoericht received the Johns Hopkins University Tuition Scholarship Award, three of only four presented this year. The students have the opportunity to work at a Johns Hopkins lab after graduation and received a tuition subsidiary of $5,000 each.
“Not only is this a prestigious award, but it’s a great feeling to have that security and good foot in the door in your field after graduation,” said MacLean-Blevins, of Westminster, MD.
Thoericht, of Baltimore, plans to use this opportunity to help continue her education: “I eventually want to become a physician’s assistant, and having this as a stepping stone for a career in the medical field is very exciting.”
The students credit a love of science and logistics for bringing them to SU’s medical laboratory science program.
“This is such a rewarding field, and being able to be detectives working through puzzles and solving problems that also make an impact is as fun as it is important,” said Lyon, of Mechanicsville, MD. “Lab work influences a patient tremendously. There’s great responsibility in how your data affects their care.”
