SU Dance Company Presents Annual Fall Showcase November 8-10

Student DancerSALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Dance Company presents its annual Fall Student Showcase Friday-Sunday, November 8-10, in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

Curtain is 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The show includes selected works by members of the Dance Company and other student choreographers. The concert highlights a variety of styles and themes, featuring a mixture of solo works and group choreographies.

The dances are conceived, choreographed and performed by students and alumnae.

The first piece on the concert features a series of short solos and duets set to contemporary Klezmer music. These students are guest performers from the dance choreography class. Each performer has choreographed their own solo, structuring their work around a theme or artistic inspiration. The Klezmer music bonds these short works into a unified piece.

All of the other dances in the concert are created by SU Dance Company members who submitted their ideas for their piece over the summer. Each dance highlights that choreographer’s inspiration and sense of design.

Works include “Have Mercy” by Danielle Malley about the confusion, hope, desperation and love between people and the world today. Jake Thereault’s dance, “The Invisible Crown,” pays homage to classic as well as modern ball culture. It asks what brings joy and how that joy is shared in a world that doesn't always welcome individuality.

Emily Lane, a 2019 graduate of SU and long-time Dance Company member closes the concert with “Until You Try,” a fun, jazzy all-company finale.

Admission is $10; $7 for seniors, SU faculty, staff and alumni; $5 for non-SU students; $3 for SU students with Gull Card. The public is invited.
