SU Hosts ‘The Importance of the ADA and Where We Go From Here’ Lecture October 12
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s next Enlightened Perspectives Lecture Series speaker examines “The Importance of the ADA and Where We Go From Here,” marking three decades of the groundbreaking Americans With Disabilities Act 6 p.m. Monday, October 12.
During the virtual event, SU alumnus Will Fried discusses the road to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – which included key leaders such as activist Ed Roberts and legislator Judy Heumann – Section 504 and what the ADA means today. He also talks about what still needs to be done to achieve true disability inclusion.
Participants will be encouraged to take action for disability rights and empowered to advocate in their own communities.
Signed into law by President George H. W. Bush on July 26, 1990, the ADA prohibits discrimination and guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to participate in the mainstream of American life – to enjoy employment opportunities, to purchase goods and services, and to participate in state and local government programs and services.
Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Services, in partnership with the Disability Resource Center, admission is free and the public is invited. To register, or for more information, call 410-548-4503 or visit the registration page.
