SU Hosts Screening of Documentary 'A People Uncounted'
SALISBURY, MD---A screening and discussion of the documentary A People Uncounted is 7 p.m. Monday, February 19, in Salisbury University’s Herman van Apeldoorn Film Center, Fulton Hall Room 111.
Dr. Siv Lie, associate professor of ethnomusicology at the University of Maryland, College Park, joins virtually.
The film documents the history of the Roma, commonly referred to as “Gypsies,” a diaspora often hated, yet romanticized by popular culture. The Roma have endured centuries of intolerance and persecution in Europe, most notably during the Holocaust.
Featuring dozens of Roma – including Holocaust survivors, historians, activists and musicians – A People Uncounted captures this unique culture through a rich interplay of poetry, music and resistance while presenting the Roma tale as emblematic of the world’s legacy of racism and genocide.
Admission is free and the public is invited.
