Ballet on the Beach

SU Foundation-Supported Ballet on the Beach Returns September 21

SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Foundation, Inc. provides support for the second annual Ballet on the Beach Dance Festival Saturday, September 21, at Assateague State Park in Berlin, MD.

Pre-performance activities begin at 4 p.m., with a performance from 5-6:30 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, September 22.

The festival includes performances by New York City-based Continuum Contemporary Ballet, featuring the choreography of directing artist Donna Salgado.

Also featured are performances by Andrea Allmon and Oscar Sanchez of the Washington Ballet, Lindsey Donnell and Kouadio Davis of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, the Janusphere Dance Company, the Ballet Theatre of Maryland, dance artist and filmmaker Milan Misko, and guest violinist Jonathan Zapuche, among others.

In addition, audience members will learn about the history of Assateague Island and its famous wild ponies from Meghan Rhode, assistant park manager of Assateague Island State Park, as well as ocean and coastal bays conservation from Greg Atkin, conservation programs coordinator of the National Aquarium.

Assateague State Park and the Maryland Park Service co-sponsor the festival. Additional support is provided by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore; Friends of Assateague State Park; the Eastern Shore Ballet Theatre, Inc.; and Blue Water Development.

Funding for this event is in part provided by the Worcester County Arts Council, Maryland State Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts, organizations dedicated to cultivating vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive.
