Amnesty International Hosts 'Born into Brothels' Film Screening March 29
SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University chapter of Amnesty International hosts a film screening of the documentary Born into Brothels 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in the Ritual Room of the Scarborough Leadership Center.
In the 2004 production, filmmakers Ross Kauffman and Zana Briski chronicle the lives of eight children of prostitutes who reside in the red-light district of Calcutta, India. They give the children cameras and encourage them to capture the poverty-stricken, overpopulated area through their own eyes, sparking some remarkable observations and genuine artistic talent.
The result is a powerful film that depicts the transformational journey made by the children because of the empowering force of art and the sense of hope and direction it offers.
