Anita Miller receives Maryland award
SALISBURY, MD -- Anita Miller, a second year ShoreCorps/PALS member at Salisbury University, recently won the Education and Literacy category for the annual Governor's Volunteer and Service Awards. The honor was given for providing teaching, tutoring or assistance in an educational setting, adult literacy or English as a second language.
Miller was honored at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend made a presentation to all of the winners of the Volunteer and Service Awards and presented Miller with her award.
As part of her ShoreCorps/PALS assignment, Miller works with the Somerset County Department of Social Services. In 2001, she was also instrumental in starting a service project on Smith Island to clean up the museum and surrounding areas in preparation for tourist season.
