'Art: 21' Screenings Complement Gallery Exhibit October 11-November 1

SALISBURY, MD---For hundreds of years, art has carried the stigma of being appreciated only by the wealthy and sophisticated. In the 21st century, however, contemporary artists are working to make their pieces accessible to everyone.

Salisbury University helps demonstrate their efforts with screenings of the PBS documentary series Art: 21-Art in the Twenty-First Century 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays, October 11-November 1 in Fulton Hall Room 111. The series is shown in connection with the national touring exhibit “Instigators of Memory,” displayed at the University Gallery of Fulton Hall From October 6-November 5. An exhibit reception follows each screening.

Two artists featured in the exhibit join viewers to discuss their works during two of the receptions. Gail Hillow Watkins, an artist of unusual talent from Annapolis, attends the October 11 reception. Marian Bingham of Greenwich, Conn., whose Asian-inspired Dream Horse Series is on display, attends the November 1 event.

The exhibition is organized by Katharine T. Carter & Associates, the University Galleries at Salisbury University and Frostburg State University.
