BEACON moves to new home

SALISBURY, MD ------The Business, Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON), an outreach and experiential learning unit of the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University, moves to a new home in January: the former SU International House at the corner of Camden and College avenues.

BEACON offers business, economic, community and workforce development consulting and assistance services to a variety of clients, including private businesses, government agencies, and non-profit and community organizations. BEACON also undertakes undergraduate and graduate research projects and offers a variety of experiential learning opportunities for Perdue School students and faculty through its community outreach team projects.

According to BEACON Director Memo Diriker, associate professor of management and marketing at the Perdue School, BEACON's previous location in the Power Professional Building across Route 13 from the main campus inhibited

interaction with the rest of the University community, particularly the Perdue School. Diriker said, "This move will put us right across the street from our business school colleagues and better facilitate collaborative projects." In addition, the new location will be more visible to the general public.

Students will also benefit from BEACON's close proximity to the main campus. Said Ruth Baker, BEACON's managing director: "The move will make it easier for students without cars to be part of the BEACON team and benefit from the learning opportunities here." The facility will be set up to accommodate four fully networked project/group study teams, or even small seminars. Diriker is currently finalizing plans for utilizing the four group study rooms for two M.B.A. evening classes this fall

Look for BEACON's official ribbon cutting and grand opening festivities during the first week of the spring semester. For more information about BEACON, contact Diriker or Baker at 410-548-5353 or email beacon@salisbury.edu.
