Ballet Hispanico comes to SU October 14

SALISBURY, MD ---As part of its fall Latin-American Culture Series, Salisbury University's Office of Cultural Affairs and Museum Programs presents the internationally-renowned Ballet Hispanico on Monday, October 14, at 7 p.m. in Holloway Hall Auditorium.

The troupe's innovative repertory fuses ballet, modern and Latin dance forms into a spirited image of contemporary Hispanic-American culture. Recognized around the world as the foremost dance interpreter of Hispanic culture in the United States, Ballet Hispanico was founded in 1970 by Artistic Director Tina Ramirez. She addresses the audience before the performance.

Acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, the company has performed for over two million people, appearing in such major venues as The Kennedy Center, Houston's Wortham Center, the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, UCLA's Royce Hall, the Annenberg Center in Philadelphia, Wolf Trap, Jacob's Pillow, Boston's Celebrity Series and The Joyce Theater. They have appeared on CBS Sunday Morning and, on NBC, Hispanics Today, Latin Access and the 1999 Hispanic Heritage Awards. International appearances include the Zurich Summer Festival in 2001 and a tour of Spain in 1998 and as well as an appearance in Seville where Ballet Hispanico represented the United States at Expo '92.

SU students can receive one free ticket with ID on Monday, September 30, and Tuesday, October 1. On Wednesday, October 2, part-time students, faculty and staff can receive one free ticket with ID. The general public can receive one free ticket per person from Friday, October 4-Friday, October 11; ID is required. All tickets will be distributed at the Guerrieri University Information Desk. Ticket holders must be seated by 6:45 p.m. on the night of the performance. At that time, open seating becomes available to non-ticket holders on a first-come, first-served basis.
