Dance Showcase Benefits Cantor Fitzgerald Fund
SALISBURY, MD---The Salisbury University Dance Company highlights a work by Torans' Jackson of Ailey II and features seven premieres of member works in the 12th annual Fall Dance Showcase on Wednesday, November 7, and Friday-Saturday, November 9-10, at 8 p.m. in Holloway Hall Auditorium on campus. Tickets are $8/adults, $6/teens and seniors, and children under 12 and students free.
The company is contributing one-tenth of its fall season income to the Cantor Fitzgerald Fund, which goes to providing support to those who lost loved ones in the September 11 tragedy.
"The tragedy of September 11 has changed our lives individually and collectively as a nation," said Dr. Victoria Hutchinson, artistic director. "I am immensely proud that the SU Dance Company is reaching out to support those in need.”
Guest choreographer Torans' Jackson premieres “Shabach,” which the entire company will perform. Jackson danced with Ailey II, formerly the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble of New York City. Ailey II received critical acclaim and numerous honors in recognition of its outstanding performances, national tours, residencies at major universities and public schools, and community outreach programs.
The event premieres seven dances choreographed by company members: “Rock On” by Kathryn Ferguson, “Let’s Dance” by Arin Collinson and Theresa Steiger, “Who Do You Want Me To Be” by Elisa Rose Frank and Carlyn Keene, “Take a Stand” also by Keene, “Searching” by Robin Lewis, “Façade” by Chrissy Moore and Erin Fair Rhoades, and Rhoades’ “Good Girls, Bad Chicks.”
To support the Cantor Fitzgerald Fund, six raffle ticket drawings will be held at the performances. Each drawing is worth $50-$100 in a collection of gift certificates and merchandise from Salisbury arts organizations and businesses. The $1 raffle tickets can be purchased at the door, the Department of Physical Education in Maggs Center Room 232 or at selected hours in the lobbies of the Guerrieri University Center and the Commons building.
