EMU Jazz Ensemble Concert

SALISBURY, MD---EMU Jazz and Swing Sisters, a 25-member swinging big band ensemble from Eastern Mennonite University, performs Saturday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in the Wicomico Room of Guerrieri University Center at Salisbury University. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited.

Directed by Dr. Steve "Doc" Sachs, who formed the band in response to student interest during the 1982-1983 school year, EMU Jazz and Swing Sisters performs on the EMU campus for churches, civic groups and elementary school audiences in Harrisonburg, VA. The Mennonite Youth Convention, held in St. Louis in July 1999, featured the ensemble, and members of the group attended the International Association of Jazz Educators Annual Convention in January 2000. The band embarked on a nine-day spring break tour last year, with concerts in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio.

EMU Jazz and Swing Sisters performs at the Mennonite Health Assembly in Knoxville, TE, March 1-10, and at other southeastern cities including Atlanta, GA, and Sarasota, FL. "Eastern Mennonite Jazz on Tour" is the band's new CD effort.
