'Eloquent Eye' Inaugurates Art Film Series February 7
SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University inaugurates its “American Master Photographers” film series with Alfred Stieglitz: The Eloquent Eye 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, in Fulton Hall Room 111.
Known as the father of modern photography, Steiglitz is best remembered for his studies of his wife, artist Georgia O’Keeffe. In the late 1800s, Steiglitz photographed snow, rain and night images—all thought to be technically impossible. He formed the Photo Secession Group, dedicated to promoting photography as art, and established the famous 291 Gallery in New York. The gallery was responsible for the first American exhibitions of Rodin, Cézanne, Matisse, Rousseau and Picasso.
Sponsored by the University Galleries, the screening is free and the public is invited. For more information call 410-548-2547 or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
