Hollingsworth Earns Spring 2006 Miles-Stevenson Prize

SALISBURY, MD---C. Brooke Hollingsworth, daughter of Scott and Shelly Hollingsworth of Denton, MD, is the spring 2006 recipient of the Miles-Stevenson Prize awarded by Salisbury University’s Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture.

Hollingsworth, a junior history and secondary education major, researched the life of John Bozman, an Accomack County, VA, native who moved to Somerset County in 1663 at age 13. Two years later, his father passed away, leaving him with enough land for a healthy start as a young adult. He raised his family in Somerset and went on to serve as president of the county commission, as well as the county coroner.

“John Bozman’s biography, though not historically unique, is somewhat representative of those men who helped cultivate the new society that was forming in Maryland at the time,” Hollingsworth said.

At SU, Hollingsworth is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi education honor society. She is a 2003 graduate of North Caroline High School.

Established by Marelyn Zipser in honor of Roger Atwood Miles and Arintha May Stevenson, the Miles Stevenson Prize is awarded in the fall and spring semesters for outstanding historical research in Delmarva history.
